If you’re on the hunt for a used van, there are a good few options out there. So many in fact, that it’s entirely possible to get lost amongst the choices. Volkswagen, Ford, and Mitsubishi all have a strong track record when it comes to manufacturing vans, and some of our bestsellers, incidentally, include the Mitsubishi L200, the Ford Transit and the Volkswagen Caddy. Which of these stellar vehicles you should choose is based on your precise needs and requirements, as they each offer somewhat different specifications. Here’s a quick look at what each of them offers the busy modern driver!
The Mitsubishi L200 is the most different from both the Transit and the Caddy, as it isn’t a van in the traditional sense; it more closely resembles the American ‘pick-up truck’ style vehicle, which means it’s not quite as good for some things but much better for others. Unlike the Caddy and Transit vans, the L200 features an open boot area which can be used to carry large and heavy items which may not fit in the limited space provided in other vans. A van like this also makes it easier to move items on and off the back cargo area quickly and easily.
Of course, the drawbacks of the L200, though few and far between, mean any items you house in its cargo bay, won’t be sheltered from bad weather, and bigger items will need to be properly secured and tethered down to prevent them from falling out of the vehicle while you’re driving. Of course, this is part of the territory that comes with pick-up style trucks, and if you’re in the construction industry, or need to move around particularly large items, there may be no better alternative.
The Ford Transit is a classic, iconic van, synonymous with the very utterance of the phrase ‘commercial vehicles’, and raucously popular in the UK for many, many years. It’s a reliable and tough vehicle with ample space in the back, making it a good choice for drivers who move large items such as furniture or machinery. Ideal for conversions, construction, DIY and any other reason you may need a vehicle with a wealth of space, it’s easy to see why the Transit is so ubiquitously popular.
The Volkswagen Caddy then, offers the practicality and spaciousness required of commercial vehicles, in a compact inner-city centric package. It boasts a stylish, rounded appearance and a streamlined interior; less cargo space at the back than a Transit, but ample room for carrying out any number of tasks. The Caddy’s major improvement in comparison to the Transit is its lithe dimensions, making it perfect for whizzing about built up urban areas, or cross-countrying with haste to a new job.
Ultimately, the van you choose is, of course, a personal decision weighted by your individual requirements. Choose a van which looks and feels right for you, and it will serve you well for years to come.
