The most popular used cars in the UK have been revealed and you’ve probably got a pretty good idea about whom the likely contenders are. We take a closer look at some of the UK’s favourite vehicles and why they’re such a hit with so many used car buyers.
Best of the Rest
Over the past few years we’ve seen a rise in the popularity of crossover SUVs, and one of the winning crossovers is the Nissan Qashqai. Nissan owners often praise the reliability offered by Nissan vehicles, which may be why the Qashqai has been so successful. The Nissan Juke has shared in the success by also making it into the top ten most popular used cars this year. The rejuvenated FIAT 500 has seen massive success since it’s relaunch, and the trendy iconic super mini has maintained momentum carrying the same success into the secondhand market.
With over 25,000 sales so far this year, the Volkswagen Golf maintains a spot in the top five most popular cars. Volkswagen is a brand synonymous with reliability and quality (recent scandals aside), and the trusty hatchback remains a popular vehicle choice for British drivers, so the Golf naturally keeps a healthy fan base. As with most Volkswagen vehicles, they tend to keep their values a little better than competitors’, so used prices often carry some of this premium.
The Vauxhxall Astra has always been a popular model in the UK, as it follows the traditionally popular hatchback recipe. With over 27,000 used sales in the UK so far, the Astra achieves fourth place in the overall top five most popular. An influx in new car offers have led to disappointing residual values meaning used car buyers are in luck! Nearly new Astra vehicles can be picked up at a snip of their showroom price. Fortunately, due to the vast number of nearly new Astra models appearing on the used car market, used buyers will find a broad range of models available which often includes a broad range of features and specifications.
The Vauxhall Corsa has sold in excess of 38,000 in the UK so far and that puts the Corsa in the top three most popular used cars. The Corsa has always remained a popular super mini even in the new car market, which ultimately creates a raft of availability in the used car sector. Vauxhall Corsa models usually loose value quickly due to the volume on the roads, and the frequency of new models being released.
Ford has dominated the automotive industry for some time, and it’s widely accepted that Ford vehicles offer drivers a more rewarding driving experience. With over 41,000 sales this year so far, the Ford Focus stays firmly in second place as one of the most popular used vehicles in the country. The Focus offers a great driving experience combined with a pleasing interior that leaves very little to be desired.
The Fiesta has sold far more than any other vehicle in the UK, with well in excess of 59,000 sales so far this year. Many of you would have expected the Ford Fiesta to appear in the list, and it will come to no surprise to some that the Fiesta has achieved the most popular accolade year after year for some time. Thanks to its great driving experience and impressive feature list, many of the models on the market include an impressive array of features.
